family friends
I've been so very blessed over the years to have made some pretty incredible friends. You know the kind I'm talking about ... those that feel more like family that 'just friends.'
I got to thinking about that the other day after spending some good quality time with my college roommate, Micky, and her wonderful kids.
Why does it seem second tier to be 'just friends?' I think maybe that's backward. I mean, when you make a TRUE FRIEND in this world, you know what I'm talking about. That friend can be every bit as close as a family member. In fact, since a friend is someone you CHOOSE to include in your life, sometimes you can be even closer.
For me ... friends are the family of my heart. I know it's sappy. But it's also quite true. Micky and I have known each other for several decades (sorry Micky ... I'm dating us, I know). And while we don't live close to each other any more, she's every bit as important in my life as when we shared an apartment muddling our way through TAMU. And just like my 'real family' I don't need to be close to her physically to know that she's there for me. [I sure hope she knows the same is true in reverse. I'm pretty sure she does, but just in case, here's a little reminder.]
So ... I'll end the gushing now and share what I came here to share ....
We all love to spend time with you guys, Micky. Your children are so beautiful - inside and out. They are fun and fun loving. They remind me of you in so many incredible ways. I am glad that you guys are in our little family of friends.

Oh Adria - I love this post, I love the message and the truth of it all... Friends are the family of our heart, the family we choose. The photos are beautifully arranged and that quote in the middle ties it all in.
I'm so glad you got to spend some time with Micky and the kids, I hope it was a time to forget everything else, and "just be"!!!!
LOVE you!!!!!!!!!
