Einstein is quoted to have said 'Inspiration is more important than knowledge.'

I think that you will find this statement to be true of most (if not all) of the great thinkers throughout history. You need someone who can ask questions; someone who can look at ordinary things in a slightly askew manner; someone who sees the world with the wide-eyed wonder of a child. It is from these open minds that the world has grown and changed and developed into the technological wonderland that we live in today.

One of those great thinkers just happens to be a role model of my little guy - Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci. As I have learned over the last month of research work that has gone into preparing Logan's 'Renaissance Figure Monologue', Leonardo was one of those guys who just didn't look at the world in quite the same way as those around him. He was constantly asking questions. Constantly looking for answers. And he was not afraid to try new things in his quest for solutions. In fact, that is one of the reasons that preservation/restoration of his mural depicting The Last Supper is such a difficult endeavor. He used an experimental paint preparation technique and ... well ... it didn't work as well as he hoped. But that didn't stop him from trying.

Leonardo filled more than 100 notebooks with his ideas, his inspirations, his drawings, and his inventions. And our little family has more than enjoyed learning about the man and his way of looking at things as part of this project.

The time is drawing near when our boy will don his costume and he will take the stage as part of the Forest Ridge Elementary 3rd grade museum; a reincarnation of the great man himself. As a preview, we put together Logan's costume this week and let him try it on to get a feel for things.



As you can see, he's more than ready to play the part. But best of all, I'm so proud to say that my boy is one of those who (at least for now) is full of questions, full of ideas, and absolutely certain that he can change the world for the better. All I can say is, "Go, Baby. Go! I can't wait to see the world you create!"
